Filip
started training tennis at the age of five, while his
progress was monitored by his father Stjepan, who remained
his coach until 2007 when he moved to the USA. Soon enough
tennis guru Bollettieri spotted Krajinovic’s talent.
- “I remember Filip’s arrival at the academy and I can tell
you I could instantly tell how much love that youngster had
for the game. We can already say that he is now – at 16 –
one of the most talented tennis players in the world. His
main characteristics are powerful shots, his forehand and
backhand shots that he hits very early and with very little
spin, and his footwork is great. I’d say he reminds me a lot
of Andre Agassi, with a slight difference in that Krajinovic
is much better at net play,” says Bollettieri for The
Independent.
Owing to his talent and his results so far, Krajinovic has
secured a place in the so-called Elite Group of the Nick
Bollettieri Tennis Academy, among winners of ATP events,
Challengers, Futures and junior competitions. Filip is
currently ranked 15th in the junior rankings. During one of
the visits to this carefully selected group of tennis
prodigies, famous tennis coach Brad Gilbert was taken aback
by Krajinovic’s talent.
- “During my stay at the Academy we trained many kids.
However, one of them caught my eye. It’s Serbia’s Filip
Krajinovic, who’s got incredible talent. The way he plays at
the age of 16 is impressive and there’s no doubt there is a
glorious tennis career ahead of him, if everything goes
according to plan,” says Gilbert.
Filip’s dream has come true even before his chance to turn
professional, as he has had an opportunity to play a match
against his idol Roger Federer.
All
prerequisites for achieving top-class results and creating a
magnificent tennis career are there for Filip Krajinovic.
What remains to be seen is for Filip to prove what everyone
is forecasting – to become the world’s number one tennis
player one day.
